Automated Migration Filters (AMF) at Mexico’s International Airports

The National Migration Institute (INM) has implemented an automated migration control technology known as Automated Migration Filters (AMF) in several international airports in Mexico. These filters allow passengers to enter the country in a personal, fast, secure, and free manner, without the need to interact directly with a migration officer.
Where are they available?
Currently, AMFs are available at the following airports and terminals:
| Airport | Terminal |
|---|---|
| Mexico City (AICM) | 1 and 2 |
| Cancún | 3 and 4 |
| San José del Cabo | T2 |
| Guadalajara | A |
| Puerto Vallarta | 1 |
| Querétaro | 1 |
| Tijuana | 1 |
Requirements to use the AMF
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Travel for tourism purposes only.
- Not travel accompanied by minors.
- Hold an ordinary electronic passport valid for at least 180 days, issued by one of the following countries: Germany, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, South Korea, Denmark, Slovakia, Spain, United States, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Luxembourg, Mexico, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Important: AMFs cannot be used by travelers entering Mexico for study, work, residence, family reunification, or humanitarian purposes, nor by holders of diplomatic, official, service, or consular passports.
Entry process using the AMF
- Locate the corresponding line and have only your passport ready.
- Open your passport to the page containing your photo and personal details.
- Place the passport on the scanner and wait for the gates to open.
- Enter the gate enclosure. A photograph will be taken to perform facial verification.
- The system will automatically validate biographical, biometric, and flight information.
- Upon completion, a ticket with a QR code and digital seal will be issued. Scan the QR code to download your Digital Multiple Migration Form (Digital FMM), which must be kept until your departure from Mexico.
The use of AMFs is free of charge, does not require prior registration, and complies with high standards of security and personal data protection. Passengers using this technology experience significantly shorter waiting times.
Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell if my passport is electronic?
Electronic passports have an international symbol on the cover identifying them as an e-Passport.
Do international travelers still need to obtain the Multiple Migration Form?
Yes. Foreign visitors must scan the QR code on the ticket, download their Digital FMM, and keep it available upon departure from Mexico.
Can everyone arriving through these airports use the AMF?
No. Only travelers visiting for tourism purposes who meet the specified requirements may use the system.
Is it mandatory to scan the QR code printed on the ticket?
Yes. Scanning the QR code generates your Digital FMM, which contains your entry information and may be required upon departure.
Why should I keep the ticket?
Because it contains unique and personal information about your entry through an AMF and may be requested upon departure.
Why can’t minors use these devices?
For safety reasons and to protect minors’ integrity, as well as due to the possible difficulty of operating the device.
Which languages are available on the AMFs?
Spanish and English.
