2. The Embassy Building
The Embassy of Mexico was designed by Mexican architect Alfredo Terrazas de la Peña, in collaboration with Australian architect Anthony Cooper, and was completed in 1982. The building is considered an architectural attraction in Canberra and a landmark in Yarralumla, recognized for its simple and elegant form, smooth white walls, open spaces, and a large interior skylight that enhances the sense of light and space.

At our Embassy, art is integrated into architecture, sculptures complement and enrich the façade, while exposed concrete and a modern design emphasize both aesthetics and functionality.
The compound also includes the Ambassador’s Residence, inspired by Mexico City’s Pedregal area, a modernist neighbourhood developed in the 1950s. Since 1982, it has housed ten ambassadors, including the current resident, His Excellency Ernesto Céspedes Oropeza, and his family.
