For the person with interest in the big cities' cultural life, cities like Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Puebla, are ideal destinations.

The metropoles offer a wide range of cultural options and sights: art museums, theatre plays, operas, cinemas, concerts, restaurants with fine Mexican as well as international gastronomy, big shopping malls with fashion stores, an exciting nightlife with a wealth of bars, discos, and of course, mariachis.


Mexico City

 

The cultural offers of Mexico City are comparable of those of other known big cities. You can visit Teatro de la Ciudad, the old thatre that is considered a world heritage, and the city's different museums, among others Museo de Arte Moderno with works of art by Frida Kahlo, Rufino Tamayo, and by the mural painters Jose Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. Other interesting venues include Palacio de Bellas Artes, Museo Mural Diego Rivera, Museo Frida Kahlo and Museo de Culturas Populares.

Without a doubt, the National Autonomous Unversity of Mexico (UNAM), and its central library, which is one of the most photographed buildings in Mexico, is worth a visit.



Guadalajara

 

You can find some of the best mural paintings of Orozco in Guadalajara (in Jalisco, the land of the tequila and the mariachis), where you can also appreciate impressive buildings such as Instituto Cultural Cabañas, which is included in UNESCO's world heritage list.

The city is also known for its beautiful parks and sorrounding natual areas, such as El Bosque Las Primaveras (The Spring Forest), often referred to as the city's lungs. In addition, there is the Parque Metropolitano, where you can do camping and ecotourism outings, as well as all kinds of sports activities.



Monterrey

 

Monterrey offers the visitors different cultural options like a visit to the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (MARCO art museum), as well as tours to the Centro Cultural Alfa and toCerveceria Cuahtemoc, which is the oldest and biggest brewery in Mexico.
